Wakiso District road worth 514 million was on Thursday 24/11/2022 commissioned by the Resident District Commissioner, Justine Mbabazi in Wakiso Town.
Justine Mbabazi applauded the government under the leadership of President of H.E Yoweri Museveni for the funding towards roads rehabilitation in the District adding that road construction is a great pillar to social economic transformation.
She urged leaders in the area to regularly monitor the construction works and report any shoddy works to her office.
The Chief Administrative Officer Alfred Malinga urged the contractor to ensure the project is delivered on time.
He called for transparency in the implementation of government projects to avoid suspicions and quarrels among the different stakeholders.
The District Engineer Sam Mwesigwa said the target section of 330 metres road is to be upgraded to buitmen standards of asphalt overlay of 30mm,installation and encasing of cross culverts of 900m,scarification of existing pavement road and side drainage among others.
The up grade of the District road is a joint venture undertaken by Wakiso Town council and the District.
Wakiso Town council will contribute 364m from the road fund and property tax while the District will contribute 150m from the Uganda Road fund.
The LC Chairperson Wakiso Town council Mukalazi Fredson Kasiwukira appealed to the communities to contribute additional culverts to supplement the District and Town council Culverts since funds are inadequate to cover frontages of all plots along the sections of the road.
He called upon the public to cooperate with the contractors since some sections of the road will be closed during execution of road works.
The Vice Chairperson Wakiso Betina Nantenge called upon the central government to increase funding allocated to the District since it’s the gateway to the capital city of Kampala.
Ragmar (U) Limited was contracted to undertake the construction works for a period two months.
