District Chairperson Launches Council Sports Initiative During Hoima Induction

District chairperson, Eng. Ian Kyeyune, has launched the District Council soccer jerseys as part of an initiative aimed at promoting health, physical fitness and teamwork among Council members.

The launch was held during the ongoing induction of District Councillors in Hoima City.

Eng. Kyeyune commended the Office of the Speaker for introducing the initiative, emphasizing the role of sports in strengthening unity and collaboration among Council members.

“A ball is a uniting factor. Let us accept it to bring us together as one team because as long as we are one, Wakiso will go on top. The Speaker and I are one, as witnessed by this well-organized induction,” Eng. Kyeyune said.

The District Speaker, Hon. Ibrahim Kazibwe, appreciated the support of the district leadership towards the initiative, particularly the Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, Jude Mark Bukenya, who endorsed the programme and pledged to explore avenues for supporting it within the available budget.

The initiative received further support from former Uganda Cranes footballer and Councilor, Hon. Godfrey Ssali, popularly known as Gogolimbo, who donated two additional footballs to complement the one procured by the Office of the Speaker.

Speaking on behalf of the Councilors, Hon. Ssali expressed appreciation to the Speaker, District Chairman and CAO for supporting the initiative and pledged the Council’s commitment to its continued implementation.

According to the Speaker, the sports initiative is expected to extend to the lower administrative units of the district, providing opportunities for leaders to promote physical fitness, teamwork and interaction at different levels of local government.

The three-day induction will conclude with a friendly sporting engagement involving the newly formed District Council football and volleyball teams and Councillors in Hoima City.
