District Chairperson Urges Councillors to Embrace Teamwork and Unity

District Chairperson Eng. Ian Kyeyune has urged district councillors to embrace teamwork, unity and a positive mindset as they work to strengthen service delivery and maintain the district’s performance.

Eng. Kyeyune made the call while delivering his official opening remarks at the ongoing three-day induction of Wakiso District councilors in Hoima City.

Reflecting on the previous council, the District Chairperson noted that disagreements and internal conflicts had at times taken up valuable time that could otherwise have been dedicated to council business and service delivery.

He reminded the councilors that effective service delivery requires them to work beyond personal, political, religious and tribal differences.

“Let us have one language, work as a team, reduce rumours and increase the time we dedicate to work,” Eng. Kyeyune said, adding that the district cannot be effectively managed through rumours and divisions.

He also encouraged councilors to strengthen their relationships beyond council business by working and fellowshipping together. He cited Rotarian and savings and credit groups as examples of platforms through which councilors could share ideas, support one another and explore opportunities that can contribute to the growth of their businesses.

Eng. Kyeyune emphasized that achieving these objectives requires a positive change in mindset and a willingness to learn and embrace new ideas.

He further encouraged councilors to conduct research and develop innovative approaches to their work, particularly in making appropriate recommendations and decisions that benefit the district.

The Chairperson also reminded councilors to respect established procedures and protocols, operate within their respective mandates and follow the appropriate channels when handling council matters.

Meanwhile, The Chief Administrative Officer Jude Mark Bukenya called on councillors to respect one another and foster a strong working relationship between the political and technical wings of the district.

He said cooperation between the two sides is essential to achieving a common goal of improving service delivery to the people of Wakiso.

The District Council Speaker Ibrahim Kazibwe welcomed the councillors to the induction and commended the Chief Administrative Officer for facilitating the programme.

The Speaker noted that the induction provides an important opportunity for councilors to strengthen their understanding of their roles and responsibilities and pledged continued support to the technical team in council matters.
