Farmers Trained on Irrigation for Climate-Resilient Agriculture
Selected farmers in district are undergoing a one-day training under the Irrigation for Climate Resilience Programme (ICRP), aimed at strengthening climate-resilient agricultural practices and improving farm productivity.
The training is being held at WAKISSHA Resource Centre in Wakiso Town Council and focuses on key aspects of irrigation and modern agricultural production. These include water source establishment, management of irrigation components, best agronomic practices, and the proper use of agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides.
Senior Agricultural Engineer, Mr. Jjagwe Joseph, urged the participating farmers to embrace the programme and make effective use of the knowledge and technologies being introduced to enhance modern farming, increase food production and improve household incomes.
The training will later include a field visit to an ICRP beneficiary farmer in Bukasa Parish, Wakiso Sub-county. The visit will provide an opportunity for farmers to interact with the host farmer and Agricultural Officers, share experiences and gain practical knowledge on irrigation-based farming.
The programme is expected to contribute to strengthening farmers’ resilience to climate-related challenges while promoting sustainable agricultural production and improved livelihoods.
