WAKISO RECEIVES 1.773 MILLION MOSQUITO NETS AHEAD OF NOVEMBER MASS DISTRIBUTION.

A total of 1.773 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets have been received ahead of the mass distribution exercise scheduled for the first week of November 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen malaria prevention across the district.

The consignment from the Ministry of Health was received by district leaders led by the LCV Chairperson, Eng. Ian Kyeyune, who flagged off the nets to the various sub-counties.

From the sub-counties, the nets will be delivered to designated parish storage facilities identified by the Ministry of Health in coordination with the District Malaria Focal Person, where they will be securely stored until distribution begins.

Speaking during the flag-off, Eng. Kyeyune called for proper accountability and equitable distribution of the nets, directing the technical team to ensure that the right quantities are received, properly stored and distributed according to the established guidelines.

“My people in the technical wing, make sure you monitor to ensure the right quantity is received and properly stored. Ensure equal distribution is achieved, not giving ten nets to a household yet it is supposed to be one net per two heads.” Says Eng Kyeyune

He also urged residents to use the nets for their intended purpose and cautioned against selling or diverting them for activities such as fishing and poultry rearing.

“People stay out late, they are bitten by female mosquitoes, get malaria and end up saying nets don’t work, yet in actual sense it’s not true,” he said, emphasizing the importance of sleeping under mosquito nets consistently.

Eng. Kyeyune further appealed to the Ministry of Health to give the district special consideration in future distribution cycles, noting the rapidly growing population.

He called upon the district executive, mayors of municipalities and town councils, sub-county chairpersons and district councillors to support the exercise and strengthen monitoring to ensure the nets reach the intended beneficiaries.

Patrick Kagaiga Muhumuza, an Insecticide-Treated Nets Field Supervisor from National Medical Stores, called for effective communication and coordination among district leaders, health teams and security personnel to ensure smooth last-mile delivery.

He highlighted Katabi, Entebbe and Masulita among the areas requiring close coordination during the delivery process.

Assistant District Health Officer Betty Nabuganda said the arrival of the nets is a significant boost to malaria prevention efforts, noting that malaria remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the district.

She urged residents to make proper and consistent use of the nets once distribution begins.

Assistant Resident District Commissioner Muwanga Lutaaya assured the public of security for the nets at all designated storage centres and warned that anyone found stealing, selling or diverting the nets would face legal action.

The district leadership calls upon all stakeholders to support the November mass distribution exercise and ensure that the mosquito nets reach the intended households and are used correctly to protect families and communities from malaria.
