Trial Tarmacking Begins on Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road
The upgrading of the 12.17-kilometre Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road has reached a major milestone, with trial tarmacking now underway ahead of schedule.
The milestone was observed during a routine inspection by the Wakiso District Contract Management Committee, where Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Godfrey Kizza Rwakijuma commended Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO) for the steady progress on the project.
The 100-metre trial asphalt section will undergo quality testing before engineers approve the asphalt mix for full-scale tarmacking along the entire road.
District Road Supervisor Sseguya Nasil said the 0–5km section is expected to be completed next month, while work on the base and sub-base continues on the remaining sections.
Funded by the World Bank and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Urban Area Development Programme (GKMA-UDP), the UGX 66.2 billion project is expected to improve connectivity, reduce transport costs, and stimulate trade and economic growth across the Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri corridor.
