
Eng. Ian Kyeyune Ssengonzi Sworn In as Wakiso District LC5 Chairperson
Eng. Ian Kyeyune Ssengonzi officially took oath as the Wakiso District LC5 Chairperson during the swearing-in ceremony of the 7th Wakiso District Council held at the District Headquarters on Monday, 18th May 2026.
The ceremony marked the beginning of a new leadership term for Wakiso District, one of Uganda’s fastest-growing and most populous districts.
The event also featured the official handover of office and instruments of power by outgoing District Chairperson Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika to the newly elected Chairperson, Eng. Ian Kyeyune, in a peaceful transition witnessed by the Chief Administrative Officer, Jude Mark Bukenya.
Speaking during the event, district leaders emphasized the need for unity, improved service delivery, accountability, and accelerated development to meet the growing demands of residents across the district.
A total of 104 district councillors also took oath ahead of the official commencement of council business, signaling the start of a fresh administrative and political term for Wakiso District.
The new council is expected to steer key priorities including infrastructure development, education, health services, and urban planning as the district continues to experience rapid population growth and expansion.
