Bukasa–Sentema–Kakiri Road Project Progress Reaches 61%

Construction of the 12.17-kilometre Bukasa–Sentema–Kakiri Road in Wakiso District has reached 61 percent physical progress, exceeding the planned target of 51.4 percent and keeping the project firmly on track for completion in November 2026.
The progress was confirmed during a site review meeting held on Wednesday, attended by Assistant Resident District Commissioner Ms. Angel Namulimbe, District Internal Security Officer (DISO) Mr. Denis Oje Anguzu, the Resident Engineer, and representatives of the contractor, Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO).
During the inspection, district leaders commended the contractor for the steady pace of implementation and urged the project team to sustain the momentum, uphold quality standards, and ensure timely completion of the works.
According to the latest site progress report, several key milestones have been achieved. Clearing and grubbing stands at 92.3 percent, while roadbed processing has reached 71.15 percent. The G15 capping layer is 47.36 percent complete, the G45 sub-base has reached 37.18 percent, and the CRR base course stands at 14.23 percent. Priming works have attained 14.155 percent, while asphalt surfacing has commenced, with 0.5 percent completed. In addition, all seven planned box culverts have been successfully constructed.
Ongoing works include common excavation, swamp excavation, placement of fill materials, construction of the G45 sub-base and CRR base course, and bituminous surfacing.
The contractor attributed the smooth implementation of the project to the continued cooperation and support of the people of Wakiso District, noting that the high level of compliance with project requirements has enabled construction activities to progress efficiently.
On project financing, CICO reported receiving UGX 33.6 billion out of the total contract value of UGX 56 billion.
Once completed, the Bukasa–Sentema–Kakiri Road will significantly improve transport connectivity, facilitate trade, reduce travel time, and enhance access to social and economic services for communities across Wakiso District and neighbouring areas.
Speaking during the inspection, Assistant RDC Ms. Angel Namulimbe applauded both the contractor and the local community for the progress achieved and called for sustained collaboration to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.
“We are impressed with the pace of work, but time is now of the essence. We call upon CICO to maintain this momentum and deliver a quality road that will serve our people for many years,” she said.
District Internal Security Officer Mr. Denis Oje Anguzu encouraged residents to continue supporting the project by safeguarding construction materials and cooperating with the implementing team.
“This road belongs to the people of Wakiso. Let us all protect it and work together so that we achieve the November 2026 completion target,” he said.
With construction progressing ahead of schedule, the Bukasa–Sentema–Kakiri Road remains firmly on course for completion in November 2026, marking another significant milestone in improving road infrastructure and service delivery in Wakiso District.
