Wakiso to Restore Road Equipment to Strengthen Road Maintenance.
Wakiso District has taken a significant step towards improving road maintenance, with District Chairman Eng. Ian Kyeyune directing the repair of grounded road equipment to strengthen the district’s operational fleet.
The directive followed a district-wide inspection of vehicles and road equipment conducted by the Chairman, the Chief Administrative Officer, and Heads of Department to assess their operational status.
District Mechanical Engineer Geoffrey Bugembe reported that while two graders had exceeded their service life and were recommended for decommissioning by the Ministry of Works, the Caterpillar equipment could still be repaired economically.
In response, Chairman Kyeyune ordered the immediate repair of the serviceable Caterpillar machines and committed to restoring as many grounded units as possible to improve road maintenance across the district.
The Chairman also commended the Community Development and Production departments for maintaining their vehicles well, pledged to lobby for additional vehicles, and tasked the Chief Administrative Officer with identifying practical solutions to restore other grounded district vehicles.
He further urged all district drivers to maintain government vehicles responsibly, emphasizing that proper maintenance is essential for efficient service delivery and prudent use of public resources.
