DISTRICT CHAIRMAN CALLS FOR INCREASED FUNDING TO IMPROVE WAKISO’S ROAD NETWORK.
Improving the condition of district roads remains a priority, with a renewed call for increased central government funding to support the upgrading of murram roads to gravel standard.
District Chairman Eng. Ian Kyeyune made the appeal while monitoring works on Kyasa–Mpata Road (7km) and Mikka–Buwembo–Kitayita Road (14.5km) in Namayumba Sub-county.
He reaffirmed the District’s commitment to improving road durability, noting that the District Roads Committee is prioritising graveling to extend road lifespan and improve accessibility for communities.
During the inspection, he directed the technical team to address inconsistencies in road reserve widths, improve compaction and drainage, and repair or replace damaged culverts within the available budget.
Eng. Kyeyune noted that limited resources continue to constrain efforts to upgrade roads while maintaining the existing network. He revealed plans to engage the responsible line minister to advocate for increased funding, emphasising Wakiso’s strategic importance as a major transport corridor.
The Secretary for Works, Production and Technical Services, Hon. Moses Mubiru Balwana, underscored the importance of reliable roads in connecting communities to markets, health facilities and other essential services.
Residents welcomed the ongoing works, expressing optimism that improved road conditions will ease transportation, enhance access to services and support livelihoods.
