Headteachers Launch 2026 with Focus on Accountability, Integrity, and Performance

Headteachers across the District have kicked off the 2026 academic year with a strong commitment to accountability, instructional leadership, and improved learner outcomes. The first annual meeting of the year, held at the WAKISHA Resource Centre, set the strategic tone for schools across the district.
District and ministry leaders emphasized the need to tackle poor examination results, strengthen teacher supervision, and implement monthly attendance monitoring. Headteachers were reminded that charging fees in UPE schools is prohibited, and transparency in the management of government funds is mandatory.
Officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports called for active School Improvement Plans, functioning school finance committees, elimination of corporal punishment, and stronger measures to protect the girl child.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among Wakiso’s education leaders, prioritizing integrity, accountability, and enhanced learning outcomes throughout 2026.

Wakiso District Staff Mark Ash Wednesday with Call for Renewal and Ethical Leadership

Staff of Wakiso District Local Government gathered yesterday under their faith fellowship, St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Community, to observe Ash Wednesday and officially begin the Lenten season.
The Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Ronnie Mubiru, Parish Priest of St. Jude Catholic Parish. In his homily, he reflected on the three pillars of Lent prayer, fasting, and almsgiving urging the faithful to embrace the season as a period of spiritual reflection, discipline, and renewal.
Fr. Mubiru emphasized the values of integrity, compassion, forgiveness, unity, and charity, encouraging public servants to embody these principles in both their personal lives and professional responsibilities. He noted that Lent presents an important opportunity for ethical recommitment, particularly for leaders entrusted with serving the public.
The Mass was attended by district leaders, including Matia Lwanga Bwanika, Chairperson of Wakiso District, and Jude Mark Bukenya, Chief Administrative Officer. Their participation underscored the continued alignment between faith and civic leadership in promoting accountability and responsible governance.
This year’s Lenten observance coincides with the commencement of Ramadan for the Muslim community, presenting a meaningful opportunity for interfaith reflection and a shared commitment to prayer, sacrifice, and charitable service.
The celebration concluded with the imposition of ashes, symbolizing repentance and a renewed dedication to faithful living and service throughout the Lenten journey.

WDLG Celebrates Excellence at the 2025 End-of-Year Rewards and Recognition Ceremony

Wakiso District Local Government (WDLG) on 19th December 2025 successfully held its End-of-Year Staff Party and Rewards & Recognition Ceremony at Kitinda Resort Beach, honouring outstanding performance, dedication, and long service among staff, institutions, and administrative units.

The colourful event brought together staff from across the district and was graced by several dignitaries, including the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr. Jude Mark Bukenya, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Assistant RDC, Speaker, District Executive Committee members, Heads of Departments, and staff from various sectors.

Employee of the Year 2025

The highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of Mr. Jjagwe Joseph, a Senior Agriculture Engineer, who was named Best Employee of the Year 2025.
The award was presented by the CAO, Mr. Jude Mark Bukenya, together with the District Chairperson, in appreciation of Mr. Jjagwe’s exceptional commitment and significant contribution to service delivery in Wakiso District.

Best Performing Administrative Units and Institutions

In recognition of institutional excellence, the following units were awarded:

Best Department: Production Department

 Multi-Stakeholder Team Reviews Progress on Kitemu–Kisozi and Naggalabi Spur Road works

A multi-stakeholder site meeting was conducted on Kitemu–Kisozi Road and Naggalabi Spur Road, bringing together the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Secretary for Gender, alongside contractors, consultants, and district engineers to assess the progress of ongoing works.

The project currently employs 106 workers on site and has achieved 24.5% physical progress. Implementation remains on course as efforts continue to enhance road infrastructure, improve accessibility, and strengthen service delivery for the benefiting communities.

Wakiso District Signs Consultancy Contracts for Road Upgrading Under GKMA–UDP

Wakiso District has today signed two major consultancy contracts to facilitate the construction and upgrading of selected district roads to bitumen standard under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Program (GKMA–UDP).

The first contract covers consultancy services for engineering supervision of works for:

Seguku–Nalumunye–Bandwe–Kyengera Road (8.9 km) and Seguku Link Road (0.9 km) under Lot 1

Namulanda–Bweya–Kajjansi Road (7.5 km) under Lot 2

Kayunga–Senge–Kawanda Road under Lot 3

The agreement, signed between Wakiso District and Interconsult Ltd in association with Nivaw Enterprises, is valued at UGX 2,581,800,000 and will run for 21 months.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr. Jude Mark Bukenya, signed on behalf of the District, while Mr. Morice B. Milay signed on behalf of Interconsult Associates.

In a related development, the District also signed a second consultancy contract for environmental and social safeguards for the same road projects. This contract was awarded to Nova Consults, valued at UGX 966,000,000, and will also run for 21 months.

These contracts represent a significant milestone in enhancing road infrastructure and improving urban mobility across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Wakiso District Bids Farewell to Long-Serving District Health Officer, Dr. Emmanuel Mukisa

Wakiso District staff today bid farewell to longtime District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Emmanuel Mukisa, who has retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

During a handover ceremony held at the District Headquarters, Dr. Mukisa officially transferred office to the newly appointed DHO, Mr. Mathias Lugolobi.

In his remarks, Dr. Mukisa urged his successor to foster strong teamwork and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the health department staff. He encouraged Mr. Lugolobi to “work well with the team and treat them as his own children” as he takes on the leadership role.

District leaders and staff commended Dr. Mukisa for his professionalism, commitment, and significant contribution to strengthening health service delivery in Wakiso. They thanked him for his exemplary service and wished him well in his retirement.

Clerics Urge Integrity and Parental Guidance at Wakiso District Christmas Carols Festival

Religious leaders have called for greater integrity in public service and strengthened parental responsibility as Wakiso District marked the Christmas season with a vibrant carols festival held at the District Headquarters.

The event, organised by the St. Joseph the Worker Small Christian Community, brought together Catholic and Protestant choirs from across the district. It attracted district political leaders, technical staff, clerics from various denominations, and hundreds of residents who gathered to celebrate the spirit of Christmas through music and fellowship.

Jude Ssekyanzi encouraged district officials to uphold integrity and transparency, stressing that strong moral values are essential for effective service delivery and sustainable leadership. He further appealed to parents to closely guide their children during the festive season and to involve them in church activities as a way of shielding them from negative influences.

Rev. Fr. Deogratius Kiibi Katerega from St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Mpigi commended the Wakiso District leadership for maintaining a “God-fearing approach” to public service. He applauded District Chairperson Matia Bwanika for voluntarily stepping aside to allow others the opportunity to lead—describing the act as a gesture of humility and dedication to good governance.

Chairperson Bwanika attributed Wakiso District’s strong performance over the past 15 years to leadership anchored in moral values, noting that such principles have consistently positioned Wakiso among the best-performing districts in the country.

The Head of Laity for the St. Joseph the Worker Wakiso District Catholic Community, Prossy Nakalembe, thanked all participating choirs for their inspirational performances and encouraged Christians to continue supporting those in need.

The celebrations concluded with the cutting of a ceremonial cake and the lighting of Christmas trees—symbolizing unity, love, and goodwill as the festive season approaches.
