Wakiso leaders rallied for the Integrated Urban Development Master Plan for Greater Kampala
The government of Uganda in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency held a stakeholders consultative meeting for Wakiso District Leaders for the Integrated Urban Development Master Plan for Greater Kampala project.
The Principal Consultant Urban and Regional Planning and Smart city planning Division Hideyuki Sasaki said the goal of the project is to realise appropriate management of urban development for Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and also contribute to the promotion of sustainable urban growth in Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area by the year 2050.
The District Chairperson Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika while officiating at the meeting said the program should ensure that aspects of good governance are considered.
He added that Wakiso should be considered as an entity which is fully fledged as stipulated by the Local Government Act.
He said KCCA should not take over every thing and other implementers became spectators.
The Chief Administrative Officer Alfred Malinga said the project was timely for the District after the World Bank suspended funding to Uganda.
The Principal Physical Planner Ruth Nakatudde re-echoed the need for planning before any investments are put into consideration.
