Department’s Mandate
- To plan, design, construct, maintain, and supervise public infrastructure and engineering works within the district. This includes roads, bridges, public buildings, mechanical equipment, and other civil works, ensuring they meet safety, durability, and accessibility standards to support socio-economic development.
Core Functions
- Planning and Design of Infrastructure: Develop technical plans and designs for roads, bridges, drainage systems, and public buildings.
- Construction and Supervision: Implement and oversee infrastructure construction projects to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
- Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation: Maintain and rehabilitate district, urban, and community access roads to improve connectivity and mobility.
- Public Building Maintenance: Manage the maintenance and renovation of public facilities such as schools, health centers, and administrative offices.
- Mechanical Services: Manage and maintain district machinery and equipment including graders, excavators, and vehicles.
- Infrastructure Quality Control: Monitor and enforce engineering standards and safety in all works-related activities.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: Liaise with contractors, consultants, ministries, and development partners to implement infrastructure projects.
- Disaster Response Support: Provide rapid engineering support during emergencies such as floods and landslides affecting infrastructure.
