Sector’s Mandate
- To promote and facilitate sustainable agricultural development through extension services, technology adoption, and the creation of enabling environments for increased production, food security, and income generation among farming communities.
Core Functions
- Extension Services: Provide technical guidance, training, and support to farmers to improve agricultural practices and productivity.
- Technology Promotion: Introduce and support the adoption of climate-smart and modern agricultural technologies.
- Crop and Livestock Development: Promote improved crop varieties and livestock breeds suitable for the local environment.
- Disease and Pest Control: Coordinate pest surveillance and control programs, including vaccination and treatment of livestock.
- Agribusiness Promotion: Support value addition, agribusiness development, and market linkages for agricultural products.
- Farmer Group Formation and Strengthening: Mobilize and support the development of farmer groups, cooperatives, and associations for improved collective action.
- Agricultural Data Management: Collect and analyze agricultural statistics to inform planning and decision-making.
- Disaster and Climate Resilience: Promote climate adaptation strategies and build farmer resilience to drought, floods, and pests.
- Coordination of Government Agricultural Initiatives: Implement national programs like Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), NAADS, and the Parish Development Model.
