Department’s Mandate
- Support the mobilization of vulnerable groups
- Building the capacity of vulnerable groups
- Linking vulnerable groups to programs that can be form the government or any partner organizations that address their vulnerability.
- Coordinating the collection and analysis of social welfare and development related information
- Supervising compliance to statutory obligation regarding community care, protection, probation and welfare services
- Facilitating the registration and promotion of community development and social welfare groups
Strategic Direction
Promote social protection, equality, equity, human rights, culture, decent work conditions, and empowerment of vulnerable groups to contribute to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and national development.
Core Functions
- Coordinate the functionality of 11 directorates and 23 lower local governments.
- Develop and implement district policies and systems.
- Conduct administrative checks and supervision at least annually.
- Recruit, train, and equip staff with requisite skills and knowledge.
- Network with national and international bodies and ministries.
- Monitor implementation of lower local government and departmental projects. Key Services:
- Human resource management (recruitment, training, welfare).
- Administrative oversight and supervision.
- Policy development and implementation.
- Staff motivation and welfare programs.
- Providing a safe, clean, and conducive work environment.
