The Minister for Works and Transport Major Katumba Wamala together with Officials from Uganda National Roads Authority, on the  12th of Jan 2024, held a meeting with Wakiso District leaders to brief them about the upcoming construction of Mpigi Kasanje-Nakawuka-Nateete-Kisubi road.
Katumba urged Wakiso residents to embrace the project saying it will change the entire Kampala metropolitan area by easing the motor transport sector.
He cautioned residents employed on the project to desist from vandalizing road equipment especially fuel which will frustrate the whole project.
The District Chairperson Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika called on local leaders to convince the landlords to willingly give their land for the development of the area. He cautioned the officers responsible for land compensation to be transparent to avoid court petitions in future.
The contractor undertaking the works is China Communications Construction Company.

Water and sanitation sector updates.
Planning and advocacy meeting for District and subcounty leaders at the District Headquarters.
The District Water Officer Isaac Galabuzi revealed that the District water coverage stands at approximately 32% with rural areas covering 38% and urban areas 25% compared to National level of 66%.
The District sanitation level is at 88.2%
Busi subcounty has the lowest safe water coverage at 31% and latrine coverage at 25%.

The District today held its end of year party at Mukutaano hotel in Nansana Municipality where it recognized the best employees of the year 2023.
Mary Nakazibwe the Principal Community Development Officer who doubles as the Parish Development model Focal person scooped the Employee of the year Award 2023
The best performing Department was Education, Kakiri Health centre 111 was best Health centre, Gombe Kayunga was the best UPE school, Mende was voted the best sub county, the best support staff was Isaac Kaggwa and Adam Kanwangi from Wakiso Town Council as the best driver.
The Chief Administrative Officer Alfred Malinga was also appreciated for serving the District diligently.
The District Chairperson Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika was also appreciated for his commitment and cordial working relationship in making Wakiso shine.

The Government through the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development plans to close about 50 unapproved homes in Wakiso District.
The Ministry is concerned about the increasing illegal homes in the District which puts lives of the children at risk.
The State Minister for Children Affairs Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitishi was today officiating at a meeting for managers and administrators of unapproved child care homes at the District Headquarters.
She urged the managers to cooperate with the closure teams so that assessment of their facilities can be done.
The District Chairperson Dr. Matia Lwanga Bwanika said there are many unscrupulous individuals taking advantage of children as a source of income.
The District currently has only 31 approved children’s home with approximately 1587 children.

The conference which highlights the budget strategy for Financial year 2024/2025 was held on the 15th of November 2023 at Wakissha Resource Centre in Wakiso Town council.
