The Rotary Clubs of Kasangati and Bulindo have partnered to construct a fully equipped Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Kasangati Health Center IV in Wakiso District. The UGX 160 million project will include UGX 70 million for construction, UGX 60 million for specialized neonatal equipment, and UGX 30 million for training health workers to manage critical newborn cases.
Rotary Club Bulindo President, Lubega Percy Paul, highlighted that the project seeks to save newborns suffering from respiratory and other neonatal complications—many of whom lose their lives during referrals to Kawempe National Hospital due to the absence of specialized care at Kasangati HC IV.
Rotary Club Kasangati President, Kisitu Andrew, reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to bridging service delivery gaps and supporting sustainable community health solutions.
The project construction was officially launched by Wakiso District Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, John Lutalo, who was accompanied by district health officials. He commended Rotary’s intervention and pledged full district cooperation during the implementation process.
According to the In-Charge of Kasangati Health Center IV, Akugisibwe Roseline, the facility handles over 300 deliveries monthly but loses up to 40 newborns due to neonatal complications. She expressed optimism that the upcoming NICU will drastically reduce these preventable deaths and strengthen maternal and child health outcomes in the region.
