The Ministry of Kampala and Metropolitan affairs develops a web based system dubbed as Development Regulation and Information Management System (DRIMS) to ensure compliance to developments so as to foster orderly and sustainable developments in the Greater Kampala metropolitan area
The Physical Planning and urban development specialist Ministry of Kampala capital city and metropolitan area Wilson Awuzu made the remarks during a consultative meeting with physical planning committee held at the Wakiso District headquarters in Wakiso Town council.
The new innovation is part of the digital platform rolled out by the government where majority of government services will be provided online.
The new system will improve transparency, accountability, efficiency, convenience and improve revenue collection among others.
In addition the system will facilitate application for development permission and subsequent approval process to grant development permission by the physical planning committee.
The Chief Administrative Officer Wakiso Alfred Malinga called upon Physical Planners in the district to avoid doing physical planning in isolation but as an entity.
The GKMA-UDP aims at improving the institutional capacity of the implementing entities.

The Minister of State for Finance Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, has been enumerated in the on going National housing and population census in Uganda.
The enumeration exercise was conducted this morning at his residence in Budanyeri Cell, Ssisa Parish Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso district by the Assistant Census Officer Ivan Kitonsa.
The Chief Administrative Officer Alfred Malinga Wakiso witnessed the exercise.
Musasizi appealed to all Ugandans on behalf of the Ministry to ensure that they are counted for planning purposes. The Census exercise that started last night will last for a duration of 10 days.
Census is conducted every after 10 years, the last one conducted being in 2014.
The census figures play a critical role in guiding planning, policy formulation, and programme implementation as well as monitoring development progress in line with the national goals and objectives.
The census exercise will use digital technology to collect, process and disseminate census results.
The findings from the census are expected to play a pivotal role in planning, guiding policies, and allocating resources to meet the needs of the population.

The Census 2024 enumeration materials have been dispatched to Local Level Governments (LLGs) to facilitate the data collection process in various communities.
The timely distribution of these materials is crucial to ensuring a seamless execution of the census, which aims to collect accurate and reliable data on the District population and housing.
These materials include tablets, power banks Stickers information kits for political, religious and cultural leaders, other necessary resources to conduct the census effectively. Census Enumerators will be using these materials to gather information from households and individuals in the district to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection.
The census will take place on 10th May to 19th 2024.
It is crucial that these materials are distributed and utilized properly to guarantee that the census is conducted successfully and that all members of the community are counted.
The national population and housing census is a critical exercise that will provide vital data for development planning, policy formulation, and decision-making.

The mobile vans for census mobilization have today 6/5/2024 been flagged off by the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Wakiso Betty Nankindu to various areas to raise awareness and encourage participation in the upcoming census due to take place on Friday 10 May to 19th 2024.
The vans were made to cover areas of Wakiso Town council, Kyengera Towncouncil Wakiso Subcounty, Namayumba Town council, Namayumba sub county Masulita Subcounty and Masulita Town council.
These vans are equipped with informational materials, resources, and trained personnel to engage with communities and promote the importance of being counted in the census. They will be visiting different neighborhoods, events, and public spaces to educate people about the census, address any concerns, and distribute materials to help individuals complete the census questionnaire accurately during the exercise.
The goal of the drive is to ensure that everyone understands the significance of the census and takes part in the process to ensure an accurate representation of the population.
